DRM, or Digital Rights Management (copy protection) is bad mmmmkay? There's a lot of reasons I hate it, which I won't go into in detail (cause if you know me you probably already heard about it at length). But my biggest reason is that if the company that sold you your copy protected media goes out of business or lets say ends suppport for their DRM copy protection scheme then you are out of luck and all of your purchased music is going to be eventually useless. Hope that DRM music player is supported on all future OS's .. or that Walkman/iPod lasts forever.
Unfortunatly, most online music buyers (I know, I was surprised they existed too) probably aren't sophisticated enough to realize they are buying a horribly crippled (some say intentionally defective, intended to make you buy the same music over and over again) product, until its too late.
