Out of the Darkness, Brighter Than a Thousand Suns

So I decided to live up to my words and buy some DRM free music on iTunes just to support that whole idea. I had a hard time finding anything I wanted to actually buy, despite there being quite a few bands under the EMI label. I ended up buying an Iron Maiden album, their newest from 2006 called A Matter of Life and Death. I already had the album in ... ahem ... a different format, but never really listened to it. I gotta say, its a great fucking album, and I have seen it compared to Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, considered by some Maiden's best album. It only cost $7.99 for the whole album, in non DRM encrypted 256 kb/s .m4a format. That's a great price considering it sells for ~$20 on Amazon. I haven't really looked for it at the local music stores so I am not sure what it retails for. Either way, I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

Now for the real reason for my post... iTunes. Ok, maybe I just don't get the whole 'Mac' thing. I thought the whole point of Apple's way of doing things was to make things easy. Maybe I just don't know where to look, but how the hell do you browse for stuff in the iTunes music store? You can do a search, or view 'what's hot' and so on, but I want a list of music by genre, or by band name or whatever. I don't always know exactly what I am looking for.. I like to browse through a list until something catches my eye. I also had no way of knowing what music is 'DRM Free' and what's not, until you find what you are looking for and it happens to be categorized as being iTunes Plus. I guess thats kinda on purpose, but with the big deal they were making about the new non copy protected music why isn't there a big link or a listing of song offered in that format? So to sum up. Iron Maiden - good. Album - good. iTunes - Sucks.
